A Simple Crochet Baby Blanket

One of the gifts I made for Kari and baby Griffin was this crochet square baby blanket. It is so soft and so cute!

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft in Soft Blue (2 skeins) and Dark Country Blue (1 skein), Caron Simply Soft Paints in Peacock Feather (2 skeins)
Size H hook

It is an easy granny square and worked up pretty quickly. I think it took about four evenings. In case you want the pattern here it is.

Starting with Soft Blue:
Round 1: Ch 6, join with slip stitch to first ch to make a ring. Ch 3, 2 dc in ring. Ch 2, 3 dc in ring. Ch 2, 3 dc in ring. Ch 2, 3 dc in ring. Join with slip stitch to top of ch 3.

Round 2: Ch 3. Turn project over and add 2 dc in the ch space from the previous row. *Ch 3, 3 dc, Ch 1, 3 dc*, repeat from * two more times. Ch 3, 3dc, ch 1, join with slip stitch to top of ch 3.

Round 3 - 12: Ch 3. Turn project over and add  2 dc in the ch space from the previous row. Continue crocheting dc in sets of 3 with 1 ch between each set the length of the side and 3 ch between each pair of 3 dc on the corners.

Round 13 - 15: Use Peacock Feather yarn.

Round 16 - 17: Use Soft Blue yarn.

Round 18 - 20: Use Peacock Feather yarn.

Round 21 - 22: Use Soft Blue yarn.

Round 23 - 25: Use Peacock Feather yarn.

Round 26 - 27: Use Soft Blue yarn.

Round 28 - 29: Use Peacock Feather yarn.

Round 30: Use Dark Country Blue. Single crochet all the way around. Sc 3 stitches in each corner stitch.

Round 31: Double crochet in each stitch. 5 dc in each corner stitch.

Round 32: Single crochet all the way around. Sc 3 stitches in each corner stitch.
Weave in and trim yarn ends with your preferred method.

I was kind of iffy about the color combination while working on it. That bright Peacock Feather yarn is really bright and I almost thought of re-doing it with a different color. But I stuck with the gut decision I made when purchasing the yarn and kept on crocheting. I am so glad I did. The dark blue border really tied the light blue and the peacock together nicely. It made for a fun and so soft blanket. I think the finished size of the blanket was about 44" square.

I also got this adorable little button up shirt and shorts and a blue onesie that says "little fire cracker" on it. Totally appropriate since he's due July 4th. I couldn't find the link for that particular one. I think I might have to get this one and this one for the little guy too though...  The first one is just funny, and the second one is perfect since his mommy is a corrections officer.

Linking up at these fabulous parties.
