Good morning all! Today I'm going to share with you the 1st project from the May Make and Take. Yep, I'm still trying to get caught up on posting these Make and Take cards. I'm getting closer though. Anyway...at the previous Make and Take someone had requested to do a wedding card, but May is also the month for graduations.
Since I already had three other fabulous cards that we just HAD to do I only had one spot for a card left. What to do...do I make a wedding card as requested, or a graduation card? How about one that can work for either! So here are the two versions of the card. With the Word Play stamp set there is a fun greeting for just about anything, so it was a piece of cake to make a card neutral enough to work for both occasions.
Stamps: Word Play
Cardstock: Basic Grey, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black
Markers: Basic Black, Real Red
Accesories: Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Folder, 1 1/4" Night of Navy Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Springtime Buttons, Baker's Twine, Basic Rhinestones Jewel Accents, Stampin' Dimensionals.
The card base is Basic Grey cardstock cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4". A piece of Whisper White cardstock was cut at 3 3/4" x 5". The greeting from Word Play was stamped onto the cardstock. For the wedding card the greeting was stamped in Basic Black ink. For the graduation card the greeting was inked with the Basic Black and Real Red marker.
After the greeting was stamped the Whisper White panel was run through the Big Shot in the Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Folder to give it that pretty swirling texture. The Whisper White panel was adhered to a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece of Basic Black cardstock. This panel was then adhered to the card front.
Next I took a 10 inch long piece of Baker's Twine and a large button from the Springtime Buttons pack. The ends of the twine were inserted through two of the button holes from front of the button to the back. Flip the button over and place it face down onto the table. Place the ribbn on top of the button and tie a knot in the baker's twine around the ribbon. Then insert the twine ends through the other two holes in the button, bringing the ends back to the front of the button. Tie the twine into a bow and trim the ends. This holds the ribbon on and gathers it behind the button, while adding a nice little detail to the button.
Use Paper Snips and cut a Stampin' Dimensional in half. Place on half of the dimensional on either side of the gathered ribbon on the back of the button. Remove the liner and adhere the button with ribbon to the card front. Trim the ribbon ends to create a dovetail. For a final finishing touch on the wedding card a rhinestone was added to the ring in the stamped image for some extra sparkle.
That's it! These were quick, easy, and fun. I really think everyone liked getting to choose what kind of card they wanted to make and the colors for the accents (buttons and marker). I had several colors of markers available for them to choose how they wanted to ink up the image and with what colors. So much fun!
