Baja Gift Card Holder

The final project from the May Make and Take is this wonderful gift card holder that could easily be given to a guy or a girl.

Stamps: Autumn Splendor, Afterthoughts (retired)
Cardstock: Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, More Mustard, Whisper White
Ink: Marina Mist, Cajun Craze
Accessories: Decorative Label Punch, Tasteful Trim Die, 1 ¼” Early Espresso Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Paper Snips, stapler, Two-Way Glue Pen, Sticky Strip, 1 ¾” Circle Punch

Start off by cutting a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock 4” x 7 ½”. Score along the long side at 3 ½”, 7”, and 7 ½”. Stamp the leaf image from Autumn Splendor in Marina Mist ink to create your own patterned paper. Fold on all the score lines.

Place Sticky Strip on the ½” flap on the stamped side. Place sticky strip at the very bottom of the center section on the non-stamped side. Remove the liner from the sticky strip on the center section. Fold the ½” tab over and adhere it to the center sticky strip. Remove the liner from the ½” side. Fold the remaining section over and adhere it to both the center sticky strip and the sticky strip on the ½” section. This creates your little card envelope.

Now that your envelope is adhered together use the 1 ¾” Circle Punch on the open end. Only insert the envelope about ½” into the punch. You just want to punch out a partial circle so it is easier to grab the gift card out of the envelope.

To decorate the envelope run a ½” wide piece of Early Espresso cardstock through the Big Shot on the Tasteful Trim die to cut out your ric-rac. Adhere the ric-rac to the envelope front using the Two-Way Glue Pen, using Paper Snips trim the ends flush with the edge of the envelope.

Stamp the greeting from Afterthoughts (retired) in Cajun Craze ink on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Punch out the greeting with the Decorative label punch. Punch another decorative label from More Mustard cardstock. With Paper Snips cut the More Mustard decorative label in half length-wise and cut off the points that were in the middle of the sides. Adhere each half of the label behind the Whisper White stamped label to create a mat. Adhere the greeting label to the envelope front.

For the envelope insert cut a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock 3 ¼” x 4 ½”. Score along the long side at 1”. Stamp both sides of this cardstock with the leaf image in Marina Mist ink. Place Sticky Strip along the 1” length of both sides of the cardstock. You want the Sticky Strip right up against the edge of the cardstock. Remove the Sticky Strip liner and fold up. This creates a pocket for the gift card to set in.

Cut a piece of 1 ¼” Early Espresso Striped Grosgrain ribbon 6” long. Fold in half and use a stapler to staple the ribbon to the center of the top of the insert. Trim the ends of the ribbon into a dove-tail. Insert the gift card into the insert and put the insert into the envelope. So simple!

I hope you get a chance to give it a try!

Father's Day Owl

Today I have to share with you the fourth and final card for the May Make and Take. This one is a Father’s Day card using the adorable Owl Punch. You can’t tell that the owl is one of my favorites right???? Anyway… here is the card:

Stamps: All Holidays (retired)
Cardstock: Basic Grey, Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler
DSP: Elegant Soiree
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Accessories: Stampin’ Dimensionals, Owl Punch, Bird Punch, Two-Way Glue Pen

The card base is Basic Grey cardstock cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”. Next a piece of Elegant Soiree DSP was cut at 3 ¾” x 4 ¼”. One of the 4 ¼” long edges was torn. Tip: when tearing DSP turn the pattern that you want away from you and tear by pulling the cardstock towards you. The DSP is not colored all the way through like the cardstock is. If you use this method for tearing the large white edge that the tear leaves will be on the back side and will be adhered to your project.

This torn DSP was adhered to a 4” x 4 ¼” piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock, then the cardstock edge was torn. You want to have your DSP adhered to the cardstock before tearing the cardstock so you have a guideline for your tear. Then a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was cut at 1” x 4 ¼” and was adhered behind the straight end of the Cherry Cobbler cardstock. This panel was adhered to the card front.

A piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was cut at 2” x 2 ¼” and the greeting from All Holidays (retired) was stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink. This was adhered to a 2 ¼” x 2 ½” piece of Early Espresso cardstock. Then it was adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now for the fun part. Two branches were punched from Old Olive cardstock using the Bird Punch and were adhered to the card front using a Two-Way Glue Pen. The owl pieces were punched from Sahara Sand, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler, and Pear Pizzaz DSP. The pieces were adhered together with the Two-Way Glue Pen and the owl was adhered to the card front with a Stampin’ Dimensional. That’s it! Pretty simple and really fun!

Come back tomorrow to see the 3D project from the May Make and Take!

Pine Forest

Here is the next card from the May Make and Take. I created a small forest on the front of the card. Take a look:

Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Woodgrain
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip, Bravo Burgundy, Very Vanila
Ink: Early Espresso, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Basic Black
Accessories: Tasteful Trim Die, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder, Needle Tool, Mat Pack, Gold Brads, Stampin’ Dimensionals

The card base is Crumb Cake cardstock cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ½”. The front of the card was stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp in Chocolate Chip ink. Next a piece of More Mustard cardstock was cut at 2” x 5 ½” and was run through the big shot in the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder. A piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock was cut 1” x 5 ½” and was run through the Big Shot on the Tasteful Trim Die to get the large scallops cut.

Both the Chocolate Chip scallops and the More Mustard cardstock were adhered to the card front. The Needle Tool and Mat Pack were used to pierce three holes in the upper right hand corner of the More Mustard panel and through the card front. Three Gold Brad were added in the holes.

A piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was cut at 2 ¼” x 3 ¼”. The pine tree from Lovely as a Tree was stamped three times in Always Artichoke ink, and then four times in Old Olive ink. For the Old Olive trees I stamped the image twice before inking up the stamp again. The second stamping gives a lighter tree in the background in the same color.

The greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes was stamped in Basic Black ink in the upper right hand corner of the Very Vanilla forest panel. The forest panel was adhered to a 2 ½” x 3 ½” piece of Bravo Burgundy cardstock. This layer was adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Sailing Away

For the May Make and Take, other than the wedding/graduation card, I focused on masculine cards that could be used for Father’s Day, birthday, or any other occasion when you need a guy card. So here is the second card for the May Make and Take. I knew I wanted to use the Sail Away stamp from the Summer Mini, so here is what I came up with.

Stamps: Sail Away, Upsy Daisy, Sanded
Cardstock: Sahara Sand, Not Quite Navy, Whisper White, Poppy Parade, Baja Breeze
DSP: Elegant Soiree
Ink: Basic Black, Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Needle Tool, Mat Pack, Gold Brads, Stampin’ Sponge, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Clear Block

The card base is Sahara Sand cardstock cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ½”. The Sanded background stamp was used with Not Quite Navy ink to add some pattern to the card base. A piece of Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper was cut at 2 ½” x 4 ¼” and was adhered to a 2 5/8” x 4 ¼” piece of Not Quite Navy cardstock. The greeting from Upsy Daisy was stamped in Basic Black ink in the lower right hand corner of the panel. The Needle Tool and Mat Pack were used to pierce three holes to the left of the greeting where three Gold Brads were added. This panel was then adhered to the card front.

A piece of Whisper White cardstock was cut at 3” x 3”. Next I used a size D clear block as a stamp. Inked it up with Baja Breeze ink, and stamped it onto the Whisper White cardstock. Cool effect huh? Next I stamped the Sail Away image in Basic Black ink. The edges were sponged with Not Quite Navy ink and then this was adhered to a 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” piece of Baja Breeze cardstock. Next the panel was adhered to a 3 3/8” x 3 3/8” piece of Poppy Parade cardstock. Then it was adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I really love how this one turned out with the stripes and the pop of Poppy Parade! The ladies all loved it too! Come back tomorrow to see the next card from the May Make and Take. Also, don’t forget to enter to win the Blog Candy that I have posted HERE!

Moonlit Lake

As promised here is the tutorial for the card that I made my Hubby for his birthday. You can find the original post HERE.

1. You will need:
Stamps: Plant Hope, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Cardstock: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Basic Grey, Whisper White
Ink: Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, Island Indigo, Night of Navy, Basic Black.
Markers: Basic Black, Pool Party, Not Quite Navy
Accessories: White Gel Pen, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, Post-It Notes, Brayer, Stampin' Sponge

2. Cut one piece of Island Indigo cardstock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". Score and fold at 4 1/4". Cut one piece of Pool Party cardstock 4" x 5 1/4". Cut one piece of Basic Grey cardstock 3 3/4" x 5". Cut one piece of Whisper White cardstock 3 5/8" x 4 7/8". Set aside all but the Whisper White cardstock.

3. When using your brayer make sure to run it over the ink pad length-wise so that you get the most ink pad in contact with the brayer at once. You will have to roll the brayer across the ink pad 4 - 5 times each time you ink up the brayer. For instructions on how to use a brayer click HERE for a video tutorial.

4. Brayer the top of the cardstock with Pool Party ink. Make sure to start off the edge of the cardstock and slowly work your way down the cardstock. You will have to re-ink the roller and roll again several times to get the color as far down the cardstock as you want.

5. Place a Post-It Note onto a piece of copy paper. Hold another piece of copy paper underneath, and punch out a circle from the Post-It note with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch. Make sure that part of your circle is in the sticky section of the post it note. If you do not use the copy paper to punch the Post-It note you will not get a clean edge!

6. Place the Post-It circle onto your card where you want your moon to be.

7. Place a Post-It note across the cardstock covering about half of the length. This will be your horizon line.

8. Brayer Pool Party ink from the horizon line down towards the bottom of the cardstock.

8. Turn the cardstock around and brayer Pool Party ink from the bottom of the cardstock up to the horizon line.

9. Brayer the top and bottom of this section again using Tempting Turquoise ink.

9. Brayer the top and bottom of this section using Island Indigo ink, don't cover all of the tempting turquoise.

10. Brayer the top and bottom of this section with Night of Navy ink. Don't cover all of the Island Indigo ink. This layering of color will create the gradient affect in the color of the water.

11. Remove the Post-It Note covering the top half of your cardstock. Make sure to leave the circle Post-It in place. Take time to ooohhh and ahhh over your beautiful water!

12. Brayer Island Indigo ink across the top of the cardstock. Don't cover all of the Pool Party ink. Then brayer just a little bit of Night of Navy ink across the top of the cardstock.

13. Remove the circle Post-It note mask. Ooooh and ahhh again. It's always like magic when you remove the mask and see what the scene looks like!

14. Get another Post-It Note and tear just a little bit off the edge on the sticky side. You want to have as much sticky part right next to your torn edge as possible. This prevents your mask from moving while your sponging.

15. Place the mask where you want your right hill.

16. Sponge Pool Party ink from the Post-It Note down to the water. I like to start on the Post-It Note and use a swirling motion to apply the ink. This gives a more gradient affect where you sponge. Sponge just a little bit of Island Indigo ink right at the post it note edge.

17. Remove the Post-It Note. Oooh and ahhh again...Notice that I didn't sponge all the way along the Post-It to the water line... I knew I wanted to put another hill there. To prevent seeing the hard line of the sponging across the top of the smaller hill I just didn't sponge much there. It really helps to picture in your mind what you want your project to look like when it's completed.

18. Using the same Post-It Note with the torn edge place it where you want your left hill to go.

19. Sponge more Pool Party and then Island Indigo ink along this hill edge, but sponge a little bit heavier so this hill is darker than the first one. Remove the Post-It note. Oooooo....pretty......

20. Using the same Post-It Note again flip it over so that the sticky side is up and line it up with the hill that you just created so you have a mirrored image. You will have to hold the Post-It down with your hand here while you sponge. Sponge Island Indigo and Night of Navy ink along the edge. It's okay to make it look really dark.

21. Ink up the tree stamp from Plant Hope. Be careful to just ink up the trees and trunks, NOT the ground. You can do this by carefully using a Classic Ink Pad or by using a Stampin' Spot.
22. Stamp the trees onto  your hill. If you use wood mount stamps you may want to use your Stamp-A-Ma-Jig so that you can make sure your trees are close to being straight and where you want them.

23. To create the reflection ink up the stamp like above really well. Stamp the image onto the smooth side of your Stamp-A-Ma-Jig plastic. Quickly take the plastic, flip it over, and rub on the textured side to transfer the image to the cardstock. You have to move quick at this step or your ink will get too dry.

24. Remove the plastic and look at your beautiful reflection! Don't worry if the trees didn't transfer perfectly. Since when is a reflection in water absolutely perfectly matching the tree anyway????.

25. Ink up your greeting stamp and stamp it in the lower right hand corner of your cardstock.

26. Using the Pool Party marker draw shadow lines at the base of the trees. Use the Not Quite Navy marker to add shadows to the reflection of the hill. Color in the tree trunks with the Basic Black marker, make sure to do the reflection too.

27. Using the White Gel Pen lightly draw little squiggles to look like the sparkling water. These do not have to be perfectly spaced or perfectly shaped. Just little squiggles all over the water.

28. Make sure you dont put the squiggles around your greeting, you want to be able to read it clearly and easily. Stop and oooohhhh and ahhhh again at the beautiful scene you've created. Now do a little happy dance that the hard part is done and it looks fantastic!

29. Adhere your beautiful panel to the Basic Grey cardstock, then to the Pool Party cardstock, and finally to the Island Indigo card base. You are finally done! You've created a masterpiece! Do another happy dance and admire your work!

30. Now if you can bear to part with it give it to someone who will REALLY apreciate the work you've put into it!

If you use this tutorial to create your own masterpiece pretty, pretty, please post a link to your creation in the comments section of this post. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see what you do with it!

Graduation or Wedding

Good morning all! Today I'm going to share with you the 1st project from the May Make and Take. Yep, I'm still trying to get caught up on posting these Make and Take cards. I'm getting closer though. Anyway...at the previous Make and Take someone had requested to do a wedding card, but May is also the month for graduations.

Since I already had three other fabulous cards that we just HAD to do I only had one spot for a card left. What to do...do I make a wedding card as requested, or a graduation card? How about one that can work for either! So here are the two versions of the card. With the Word Play stamp set there is a fun greeting for just about anything, so it was a piece of cake to make a card neutral enough to work for both occasions.

Stamps: Word Play
Cardstock: Basic Grey, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black
Markers: Basic Black, Real Red
Accesories: Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Folder, 1 1/4" Night of Navy Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Springtime Buttons, Baker's Twine, Basic Rhinestones Jewel Accents, Stampin' Dimensionals.

The card base is Basic Grey cardstock cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4". A piece of Whisper White cardstock was cut at 3 3/4" x 5". The greeting from Word Play was stamped onto the cardstock. For the wedding card the greeting was stamped in Basic Black ink. For the graduation card the greeting was inked with the Basic Black and Real Red marker.

After the greeting was stamped the Whisper White panel was run through the Big Shot in the Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Folder to give it that pretty swirling texture. The Whisper White panel was adhered to a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece of Basic Black cardstock. This panel was then adhered to the card front.

Next I took a 10 inch long piece of Baker's Twine and a large button from the Springtime Buttons pack. The ends of the twine were inserted through two of the button holes from front of the button to the back. Flip the button over and place it face down onto the table. Place the ribbn on top of the button and tie a knot in the baker's twine around the ribbon. Then insert the twine ends through the other two holes in the button, bringing the ends back to the front of the button. Tie the twine into a bow and trim the ends. This holds the ribbon on and gathers it behind the button, while adding a nice little detail to the button.

Use Paper Snips and cut a Stampin' Dimensional in half. Place on half of the dimensional on either side of the gathered ribbon on the back of the button. Remove the liner and adhere the button with ribbon to the card front. Trim the ribbon ends to create a dovetail. For a final finishing touch on the wedding card a rhinestone was added to the ring in the stamped image for some extra sparkle.

That's it! These were quick, easy, and fun. I really think everyone liked getting to choose what kind of card they wanted to make and the colors for the accents (buttons and marker). I had several colors of markers available for them to choose how they wanted to ink up the image and with what colors. So much fun!

Come back later to see another card from the May Make and Take!

Hubby's Birthday Card

This is the birthday card that I made for my husband for his 27th birthday. I knew I really wanted to do a special scene for his card. Especially since he knows I make them all the time, and he knows the rediculous amount of crafting supplies I have.

It took me two tries because when I was almost done I got a finger print in Night of Navy right in the lighter spot on the right hill. So I had to start all over. Here is the card:

Stamps: Plant Hope, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Cardstock: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Basic Grey, Whisper White
Ink: Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, Island Indigo, Night of Navy, Basic Black.
Markers: Basic Black, Pool Party, Not Quite Navy
Accessories: White Gel Pen, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, Post-It Notes, Brayer, Stampin' Sponge

I will do a step-by-step tutorial on this one. I think it would be too difficult to describe just in text how this was done. So come back later this week, probably Friday, to see the tutorial!

Update: The tutorial has been posted! You can find it HERE.
