Plaid Christmas Tree

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a great day! Lately I’ve been catching up on some sketch challenges on Stampin’ Connection. Here is the first one.

Here is the sketch that was created by Susie Nelson:

This card has lots and lots of sparkle to it and I love it! The card base is Chocolate Chip cardstock that was cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and was scored at 4 ¼”. A piece of Frostwood Lodge DSP was cut at 5 1/8” x 3 7/8”. This was adhered to a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and this panel was then adhered to the card front.

Two strips of silver glimmer paper and two strips of red glimmer paper were cut at ¼” x 5 ½” and were adhered to the card front. First I adhered the vertical silver strip, then the horizontal silver strip. Then I adhered the vertical red strip and finally adhered the horizontal red strip by lifting up the vertical silver strip and sliding the glimmer paper underneath the silver and adhering it in place.

Next a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and was run through the big shot in the Scallop Oval Frame Die. I set aside the scalloped frame and just used the oval inside portion. The tree from Snow Much Fun was stamped in the center of the oval in Stazon ink. Then the snowflake from Season of Friendship was stamped several times in Crumb Cake ink.

Then I put a drop of Whisper White Craft Re-Inker into some form of plastic container. I used a piece of packaging that was intended for the trash can. I used the Aquapainter to pick up the ink and paint it onto the bottom of the oval to create a snowy ground underneath the tree. While the craft ink is slowly drying I carefully colored in the tree and bird with the markers. For the tree branches I colored the entire thing in Pear Pizzaz marker, then added Always Artichoke to the shadow areas, then colored over the entire thing again with the Pear Pizzaz marker to blend the colors together better. The trunk of the tree was colored first in Crumb Cake and then Chocolate Chip shadow lines were added. The bird was colored in with Real Red and Cherry Cobbler was used for the shadows. Then I used the White Gel Pen to color in the ornaments that are hanging on the tree. Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to adhere the oval to the card front.

The greeting from Teeny Tiny wishes was stamped in Real Red ink on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock and was punched out with the Word Window punch. The Modern Label punch was used on a scrap of Chocolate Chip cardstock. The word window with the greeting was adhered to the Chocolate Chip Modern Label. Then the label was adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. One dimensional on the side that adheres to the stamped oval and two dimensionals stacked on the side that adheres to the DSP.

Finally I used the Dazzling Details glitter glue to add some sparkle to the snow mounds under the tree and the ornaments on the tree.

I had so much fun with this sketch! The plaid works so well with the woven strips the decorate the left side of the card.
