Celebrate with Cake

Okay, so I know I haven't caught up on the sharing the projects from the previous Make and Take classes yet, but I figured I should at least stay on track by sharing this month's projects. This first card was inspired by this card at Stamp Sational. You also might notice that I really played up the Sale-A-Bration stamps for the projects this month. They are just so much fun!

  • Pool Party card stock 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
  • Crushed Curry card stock 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
  • Flashback DSP 3" x 3"
  • Basic Black card stock 2-1/2" x 2-1/2"
  • Whisper White card stock 2" x 3"
  • Stamps: Big Day (SAB)
  • Ink: Versamark, Momento, Real Red
  • Blendabilities Markers: Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral
  • Accessories: Embossing Buddy, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Stylish Stripes embossing folder, Stampin' Dimensionals

To make this bright and cheerful birthday card start off by folding the Pool Party card stock on the score line. Then run the card front through the Big Shot in the Stylish Stripes embossing folder to add some texture to the card front.

Next take the piece of Basic Black card stock and rub the Embossing Buddy all over the card stock. Stamp the greeting image from Big Day onto the card stock in Versamark ink. Now cover the stamped image with White embossing powder and tap off the excess then heat it with your Heat Tool.

Now for the really fun part! Take your Blendabilities and color the raised embossing. I used the dark shade of Daffodil Delight and the medium shade of Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral, and Old Olive Blendabilities. Make sure you alternate the color of the dots at the bottom. It's just not nearly as much fun without the colorful array of dots. Doesn't this look like a colorful chalk board!!! So cool!

Now you may notice that if you don't stay entirely on the embossing with your marker that it leaves a darker line where you got the marker ink on the card stock. Well to take care of that problem and make it look more like a chalk board just rub the Embossing Buddy over the card stock again. Too cool right?!?

On the inside I stamped the cake and candle onto the top of the Whisper White card stock in Momento ink and colored in the cake with the Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight Blendabilities. Finally I stamped the greeting (it was just too cute to resist) below the cake in Real Red ink.

That's it! A cute and easy card with a really fun technique! Thanks Wendi for sharing the idea of using Blendabilities on embossing powder for a cool accent!
