Bird House Mini Milk Carton Tutorial

Since the Mini Milk Carton die has been available I've seen several of these adorable Bird House boxes made with them. The only problem with the ones I've seen made though is that you have to either; use a clip for the top, leave the hole in the front open, or glue the top closed and the box gets destroyed getting the treat out. Well none of those options were going to work for me. I'm not going to spend that much time creating a pretty little box for it to get destroyed while getting the candy or present out. So here is what I came up with!

Here are the supplies that we will be using:

  • Stamps: French Filigree, Woodgrain, Language of Friendship
  • Card Stock: Wisteria Wonder, Crumb Cake, Lucky Limeade, Bashful Blue
  • Ink: Wisteria Wonder, Early Espresso, Pacific Point
  • Accessories: Scallop Edge Border Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Bird Punch, Sticky Strip, Paper Snips, Acetate, Stampin' Dimensionals, Stampin' Sponge, Two-Way Glue Pen, Big Shot, Mini Milk Carton Die

1. Cut a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and run it through the Big Shot on the Mini Milk Carton Die.

2. Stamp the card stock with the French Filigree background stamp in Wisteria Wonder ink.

3. Fold under the first bottom tab from the right.

4. Use the 1" Circle punch and center it in the score lines for the first side of the mini milk carton and punch.

5. There will be a hole in the bottom tab, don't worry about that. It will be covered up later.

6. Cut a piece of Window Sheet 1-1/2" x 1-3/4". I used a scrap of Acetate that I already had, but Window Sheets would work great for this too! Apply Sticky Strip onto the 1-1/2" wide top and bottom of the acetate.

7. Flip over your Wisteria Wonder card stock. Remove the Sticky Strip liner from the Window Sheet and adhere it on the inside of the section of the box with the hole. This will keep the candy from falling out of the box.

8. Now place a piece of Sticky Strip on the bottom tab as shown in the picture below.

9. Now flip your card stock back over so the stamped side is up and Apply Sticky Strip onto the side tab.

10. Fold on all of the score lines.

11. Remove the Sticky Strip liner from the side tab and adhere the tab inside the panel on the other end of the card stock to form your box.

12. Now fold in one of the solid bottom tabs, then the tab with the hole, then the tab opposite the tab with the hole.

13. Now remove the liner from the Sticky Strip on the last bottom tab and fold it down to adhere the box bottom in place.

14. Now you have this:

15. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake card stock 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" and score it at 2" as shown in the picture below.

16. Cut another piece of Crumb Cake card stock 1-1/2" x 2". Then stamp both Crumb Cake pieces with the Woodgrain background stamp in Early Espresso ink.

17. Punch one end of the 1-1/2" x 2" piece and the long end of the 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" piece with the Scallop Edge border punch.

18. Sponge around the edges and on either side of the fold with Early Espresso ink.

19. Now use Paper Snips to trim the short end of the longer piece as shown in the picture below.

20. Flip over both pieces of Crumb Cake card stock and apply Sticky Strip as shown in the picture below.

21. Remove the Sticky Strip from the smaller piece of Crumb Cake card stock and adhere it onto the right side of the top of the milk carton box as shown in the picture below.

22. Now remove the Sticky Strip liner from the other piece of Crumb Cake card stock and adhere it onto the left side of the roof so that the fold lines up with the edge of the card stock on the milk carton as shown in the picture below.

23. To close the box curl the flap of the Crumb Cake card stock around your finger or bone folder a little bit. Insert the end of the card stock into the milk carton box on the other side of the middle crease.

24. Slowly slide the tab inside the box. The tab will be held between the sides of the fold on the top of the box and keep the box closed. So now the box can be opened and closed and still look pretty!

26. Stamp the bird image from Language of Friendship in Basic Black ink onto Bashful Blue card stock.

27. Punch out the bird image with the Bird Punch.

28. Sponge around the edges of the bird with Pacific Point ink. Adhere the wing onto the bird with a Stampin' Dimensional.

29. Punch two branches from Lucky Limeade card stock with the Bird Punch and glue them onto the front of the milk carton under the hole with the Two-Way Glue Pen.

30. Adhere the bird onto the branch with a Stampin' Dimensional.

That's it! Now you have a pretty Bird House gift box that you can give to someone with a little present inside. I had this as the 3D project at the Easter Class so we filled these sweet little boxes with chocolate eggs.

I hope you get a chance to make your own sweet little Bird House Mini Milk Carton!

Field Flowers with Love

Good morning! Here is a card I whipped up really quick Wednesday night for the sketch challenge on Stampin' Connection. I hadn't used the flower images from Field Flowers yet, so it was time to get those stamps inked up! I love the two step flowers, but it definitely requires the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get the images lined up right. Take a look:

  • Stamps: Field Flowers
  • Card Stock: Wisteria Wonder, Basic Grey, Whisper White
  • DSP: Wisteria Wonder
  • Ink: Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum, Lucky Limeade, Basic Black
  • Accessories: Large Lace Ribbon Border Punch, Butterfly Sizzlit, Rhinestones, Stampin' Dimensionals, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, Two Way Glue Pen

This card was created for the SCCSC117 sketch challenge. Here is the sketch that was created by yours truly:

I started off with a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock cut at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4". Next I cut a piece of the text Wisteria Wonder DSP 4" x 5-1/4" and adhered it onto the card front. I stamped the greeting from Field Flowers in Basic Black ink in the lower right hand corner of the DSP. Next I cut a scrap of Whisper White card stock down to 5-1/2" wide and used the Large Lace Ribbon Border Punch to cut the decorative border. Then I adhered the white lace onto the bottom portion of my card front.

Unfortunately this beautiful punch is one of the many things that is being retired this year. This punch will only be available while supplies last, so if you haven't ordered it yet click my shop now button on the right tool bar and get it ordered before it's gone forever!

For the flowers panel I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock 2-1/4" x 3-1/4". The flower stem was stamped in Lucky Limeade ink. The first step of the flowers were stamped with Wisteria Wonder ink. The second step of the flower I stamped in Perfect Plum ink and used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get them lined up just right. I adhered the stamped card stock onto a 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" piece of Basic Grey card stock and adhered this panel onto the card front with Stampin' Dimesionals.

I had accidentally rocked the second stamp on the smaller flower image and got a little bit of the rubber line so I decided to cover it with a butterfly. I used the Butterfly Sizzlit to cut the Wisteria Wonder butterfly and the Whisper White butterfly was left over from another project. I used my handy dandy Two-Way Glue Pen to glue the butterflies together and onto the card.

Finally I added three rhinestones for the butterfly body and three larger rhinestones in the upper right hand corner of the card.

I just love how this card turned out! It really came together pretty quickly. Sometimes I struggle with sketches and other times the cards practically fall into place! Do you like to use card sketches? Have you had any projects lately that practically fall together on their own?

Easter Doily

This is another card from the Easter Class back in March. This is also my favorite card from that class. Take a look:

  • Stamps: Bordering on Romance, Delightful Dozen
  • Card Stock: Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Pear Pizzaz
  • DSP: Lucky Limeade
  • Ink: Versamark, Daffodil Delight
  • Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, Doily Sizzlit, Decorative Label Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals, Versamarker, Pearls, Whisper White Organza ribbon, craft knife

For this card I started off with a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock cut at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4". Next I cut a piece of Lucky Limeade polka dot DSP 3-5/8" x 4-7/8" and adhered it onto a piece of Whisper White card stock that was cut at 3-3/4" x 5". I adhered this layer onto the card front.

Next I used the Doily Sizzlit with some Whisper White card stock and my Big Shot to cut out that wonderfully delicate doily. I adhered this right onto the card front. Then I punched a circle from a scrap of Pear Pizzaz card stock with the 2-1/2" Circle punch. I stamped the flowers from Bordering on Romance in Versamark, covered the stamped image with White embossing powder, tapped off the excess, and heated it with the heat tool.

Now for the really fun part. I took my Versamarker and colored around the embossed lines to add that darker shadow. This is called the Versamark Shadow technique and it really gives it an elegant look.

I stamped the greeting from Delightful Dozen onto a scrap of Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Decorative Label punch. I punched another decorative label from Daffodil Delight card stock and adhered that behind the stamped white label. The greeting label was adhered onto the card front just below the center of the doily. Then the embossed Pear Pizzaz circle was adhered over the center of the doily with Stampin' Dimensionals. Three pearls were added to the flower centers.

Now to add the ribbon! I used a craft knife to cut a slit in the fold of the card right where I wanted my ribbon to go. Then I inserted the end of the ribbon through the slot, wrapped it around the card front, and tied it into a knot to finish it off.

I just love how delicate it looks with the doily and the shadow around the embossed flowers! I hope you give this fun technique a try! It really is easy.

Pink Easter Bunny

This was a card I created for a sketch challenge a while ago. I've gotten so behind on posting that it's ridiculous! So I'm going to try really hard to have at least one post per day (not counting posts for Craft Project Central) if not more until I get caught up.

  • Stamps: Everybunny, Teeny Tiny Wishes
  • Card Stock: Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
  • DSP: Melon Mambo
  • Ink: Black Stazon, Pool Party, Early Espresso, Pretty in Pink, Lucky Limeade
  • Accessories: Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (four petal flower), Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals, Blender Pen, Paper Snips

This card was created for the SCCSC113 Sketch Challenge on Stampin' Connection. This sketch was created by Susie Nelson:

I started off this card by cutting a 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" card base from Pretty in Pink card stock and scored it at 4-1/4". Then I cut a piece of Pink Pirouette card stock 3-5/8" x 3-5/8". I cut strips of Melon Mambo DSP 1/2" x 3-5/8" and 1" x 3-5/8" and adhered them onto the Pink Pirouette card stock. Next I adhered this layer onto a 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" piece of Whisper White card stock. This panel was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The adorable little bunny from Everybunny was stamped onto a scrap of Whisper White card stock in Stazon ink. I used my Early Espresso, Pretty in Pink, Pool Party, Sahara Sand, and Lucky Limeade ink pads and a blender pen to color in the bunny. To do this hold the ink pad with it closed and squeeze the middle of the pad, then open the pad half-way. There will be ink on the lid. Use the Blender Pen to pick up just a little bit of ink from the lid and color in your image! Super easy!

After I was happy with my colored in bunny I punched out the shape with the 2-1/2" Circle punch. I didn't really like the look of just the white circle on top of the pink layer so I used the 2-1/2" Circle punch with a scrap of Melon Mambo card stock. I used Paper Snips to cut the circle in half and adhered the halves behind the Whisper White circle to create a mat. This layer was adhered onto the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals. The greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes was stamped in the bottom right corner of the card in Melon Mambo ink.

Now even after all that I thought it looked a little plain. So I added flowers...lots of flowers. I used the four petal flower punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack to punch six flowers from Pink Pirouette card stock and adhered the flowers around the circle and one by the greeting. I added a dot of Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details into the center of each flower and five more dots in the upper left hand corner of the card.
